Goldie Hawn started dancing ballet as a three year old. In 1955, she made her first public appearance dancing in the production of “The Nutcracker” at the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. In 1961, Goldie Hawn made her stage debut playing Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet” on the Virginia Shakespeare Festival. By the end of 1964, Goldie already owned and instructed at a ballet school. She began her professional dancing debut in a “Can-Can” production at the New York World’s Fair.
Goldie Hawn began acting on TV in 1967 as a series regular on the sitcom “Good Morning, World.” However, her breakthrough role came when she was cast in the sketch show “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.” Her major role in a film only came in the 1968 movie “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.” The following year, Goldie Hawn won her first Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actress” on the 1969 movie “Cactus Flower.” She then appeared in several successful films, such as “There’s a Girl in My Soup,” “Butterflies Are Free,” “Shampoo,” “The Girl from Petrovka,” “The Sugarland Express” and “Foul Play.” Also in the 70s, Goldie Hawn hosted two of her own shows – “Pure Goldie” in 1971 and “The Goldie Hawn Special” in 1978, wherein she was nominated for a primetime Emmy.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, Goldie Hawn continued to appear in various hit films. In 1980, she received another Academy Award nomination for her work on “Private Benjamin.” Goldie Hawn juggled her time acting between comedy flicks and dramas on pictures such as “Seems Like Old Times,” “Best Friends,” “Protocol,” “Swing Shift” and “Wildcats.” In 1990, Goldie Hawn starred in an action-comedy film “Bird on a Wire” alongside Mel Gibson. Hawn made history with Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis in the now-cult classic “Death Becomes Her,” which was followed by the 1992 comedy “HouseSitter” with Steve Martin. After a four-year break, Goldie Hawn went back to making films in the late 90s, appearing in “The First Wives Club,” “In My Life,” “Everyone Says I Love You” and “The Out-of-Towners” as well as producing the film “Something to Talk About.” In 2001, Goldie Hawn appeared in the film “Town & Country,” followed by the successful comedy “The Banger Sisters.”
Aside from acting, Goldie Hawn also proved her singing chops in the film soundtrack of “You Don’t Own Me” and “A Hard Day’s Night.” In 2005, Goldie Hawn released her autobiography entitled “A Lotus Grows in the Mud.” In 2009, Goldie Hawn made her directorial debut in the film “Ashes to Ashes,” alongside her life partner Kurt Russell.
